  Mailing Cookies
  • Choose sturdy, unfrosted cookies and bars for mailing. Drop cookies and other hearty cookies in simple shapes are almost always good travelers, too.
  • Wrap cookies in pairs--back to back--and place them flat or end to end in a can, box or other durable container
  • Fill each container as full as practical, padding the top with crushed waxed paper to prevent shaking and breaking.
  • Bake and send bars in disposable aluminum foil pans, enclosing a plastic knife for cutting.
  • Pack containers in a sturdy packing box (line it with aluminum foil if you want to be sure packing materials and cookies don't pick up moisture or odors while in the mail). For fill, use crumbled newspapers, shredded paper or shredded polyethylene foam. Be sure to pack several inches of fill in the bottom of the packing box and between items so the cookies cannot move easily.
  • Seal and label the package "Perishable" to encourage careful handling.
  • Send the package so that it arrives in just a few days. It's expensive, but you won't want hard work to get stale!
